Sunday 3rd July
1.Our Juniors travelled to Newcastle Under Lyme on for a Junior Water Polo Tournament hosted by Parogon Water Polo Club.
Players: Jalees Braddock (13), Jamie Bickerstaff (12), Michael Ferriday (12), Lucas Walker (12), Kajol Parmar (12), Cole Thompson (12), Hannah Braddock (10), Emily (11) and Holly Clark (9), Charlie Bates (10) and Charlie Swift (10).
We narrowly lost to the hosts Parogon in our opening match. We were beaten by Tyldesley and beat Warley in our final match to finish 3rd overall. Matches comprised 4 x 6 minute quarters with 1 minute rest between quarters. We played our 2nd and 3rd match back to back so it was a fantastic effort to come back from a fairly heavy defeat and beat Warley. Michael was tournament captain and led the team well popping up to score goals and play in goal when needed. Jalees played the final match in goal throughout and I fine performance helped us win the game. In all this was a fantastic all round team performance and our younger players really stepped up to the mark especially considering that some of the opposition players were up to 3 years their senior.
Eyes down for our next match on Saturday 16th July vs Church Stretton
Match Report for 23rd November at Thomas Telford…
Thomas Telford 7 Wellington 4
Players – Sam Kirk, George Levitt, Joseph Care, Cameron Penny, Josh Wilkinson, Zach Hill, Max Addison, Max Lister , Jacob Williams and Ben Sturmey
(and Jasmine Williams and Ben White for Thomas Telford)
This was a really close game with the score at the end of the 3rd quarter being 4-4. In the last quarter we were attacking the shallow end and found it difficult to break down the TT defence. They scored 3 goals on the counter attack resulting in the final score. Bring on the next match.
Fine performances from George, Sam and Max L. (debut).
Match report for a fixture played on Monday 9th November at Thomas Telford School. ….
Team List (goals scored)
Connor Chesters-McCabe, Declan Chesters-McCabe, Kajol Parmer, Lucas Walker, Jamie Bickerstaff, Michael Ferriday (1), Cameron Penny, Joseph Care (4), George Levitt (2), Zach Hill (2)
Score = Thomas Telford 2 Wellington Jrs 9
This was a brilliant performance from our Jr Team beating Thomas Telford 9-2 with all players getting plenty of water time. We were very good defensively covering most of the Thomas Telford attacks. Declan made a special appearance in goal for the whole match which was much appreciated. The understanding between the older players in our attacks was very noticeable and this along with the swimming fitness of our players was commented on by several of the spectators. There were great goals from Joseph, Michael, George and Zach, many assists from Cameron and Jamie and particularly fine defensive displays from Connor, Lucas and Kajol.
Special thanks to Stan and Carol for refereeing.
Player of the Match = Michael Ferriday.
Match reports for Sat 16th & Mon 18th May
U13s vs Church Stretton.
After the disappointment of losing heavily to Church Stretton on 24th April we rallied with a 3-2 win on Saturday 16th May. Our team comprised of Connor, Steph, Chris and Hannah (Yr 5s), Kajol and Lucas (Yr 6s) and Edan, Alfie, Lewis, Jamie , Callum, Michael and Cameron (Yr 7/8s). The teams were evenly matched and tight defensive skills combined with great goal-keeping (Michael and Edan) made the score 2-2 with a couple of minutes to go. We had a great counter attack in the closing seconds of the game with Kajol popping up to score the decisive goal.
A great team performance with everyone making a valuable contribution (and debuts for Chris, Alfie and Edan).
Player of the Match = Kajol Parmer
14+ vs Church Stretton.
We fielded a very strong team with our recent experience of playing in the Men’s Wrekin Winter League being very apparent. We started very strongly which gave an opportunity for some of our less experienced players to have considerable amounts of match time.
Players of the Match = Jasmine Williams (for some great attacking positions) and George Levitt (for a fine debut performance).
U14s vs Thomas Telford
Team comprised Kajol, Hannah, Connor, Chris, Lucas, Michael, Alfie, Edan, Jamie, Cameron, Josh W, George and Declan. (Lewis played for Thomas Telford).
This was another tight and very competitive match with Wellington emerging as 5-4 winners. Our youngest players did exceptionally well against older (and very tall!) opposition. This match allowed the older players in the pool to take responsibility for directing and encouraging the less experienced players.
The match was really enjoyable to watch with many encouraging and complimentary comments from the parents of both the Wellington and Thmas Telford players.
Players of the Match – Jamie Bickerstaff (for a top notch defensive display) and Edan Sears (for debut goal)
